When you’re taking part in a passion project like S.Link FM, there comes a time where you have to either change things up, or lay it to rest. In the case of this podcast, we’re doing the former. Yes you may have seen this coming, but it’s official now: S.Link FM is switching from solely a Persona podcast to a more all encompassing RPG show.
Let’s be clear about this though: We still love Persona, the show wouldn’t have gone on two years if we didn’t. However after 50+ episodes, it’s getting a little difficult to come up with new topics that are entirely Persona-focused. We love a ton of RPG franchises from Final Fantasy to Mass Effect, and to keep things fresh(and fun) we decided to make this change.
So hopefully you’ll stick with us as we change things up. Listen to the latest episode below to hear the team’s thoughts more fully.
The long wait for the second part of our Final Fantasy centric ‘cast is finally over! In this Episode we discuss the current state of Final Fantasy, as well as the future. Lots of talk on Type-0, A Realm Reborn, and the XV demo.
We’re taking a brief break from celebrating Persona and using an episode to discuss a series the whole crew loves — Final Fantasy. Several of us found our way to Persona and other RPGs through Square’s iconic franchise, and we would like to share those origin stories.
Join us for nearly two hours as we mispronounce every single name in the series. Is it Teedus or Tyedus?
It’s hard to believe, but as of today the podcast is officially two years old! To commemorate this occasion, we’ve put together this episode to highlight some of our favorite moments in the show’s history.
Whether you’re a long time fan, or only just started listening, I can’t thank you enough for your support. It’s been such a wild and fun ride doing this show, thank you. -Levito
It’s really hard to believe, but after almost two years we’ve made it to Episode 50! Much to our good fortune, Persona 5 also received an incredible new trailer too. This episode is fulll of analysis, speculation, and predictions regarding Persona 5.
5 hosts, 5th game, 50th episode. Not much else to say, get hype.
Want to hear tips on how to get into the games industry? Or how about to win internet dancing contests? If neither of those float your boat, then surely you’re interested in hearing all about how awesome Shoji Meguro is, right?
Well regardless, all of this in more is in Episode 49 of S. Link FM.
Arguably the most difficult emotion to represent in gaming is love, or at least in any sort of meaningful way. Developers like Bioware and P-Studio have been tackling the challenge for some time now with varying degrees of success. In this episode we discuss both the representation of platonic & romantic relationships in gaming; while also comparing and contrasting the Persona series with franchises like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Baldur’s Gate.
We ended up running fairly late with this one so we weren’t able to get to nearly as many questions as we should have, apologies in advance for that. Regardless though, this was one of the best episodes of the podcast to date.
It’s time for another installment in our off topic series, this time Destiny is the topic at hand. We talk all about its faults, how important narrative is in gaming, and how Bungie has successfully created “Third Wheel: The game”.
For Episode 44 we had the great pleasure of being joined by Nich Maragos, one of the key members of the localization staff over at Atlus USA. We talked all about the upcoming Persona Q, Nich’s encounters meeting several of the big names from Atlus Japan, and even the discussion of honorifics came up.
Apologies for the tardiness behind getting this episode out, but rest assured it was worth the wait!
As promised, for Episode 43 of S.Link FM we had the pleasure of being joined by cosplayers Cerulean, Woodwarder, and of course Priscilla Kimm! This is a shorter episode, but it was pretty informative and a lot of fun too. We went over cosplay culture, what’s particularly appealing about Soeijima’s character designs to cosplayers, and several other topics. If you have ever wanted to put together your own cosplay but were too wary to do so for whatever reason, now you can hear from a bunch of pros how to overcome any hurdle.
Thanks again to Cerulean, Woodwarder, and Priscilla for coming on the show.
Spoiler warning: We dissect many details of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair’s plot in this episode.
It’s time for another Casual Saturdays, and this time the discussion focuses on Danganronpa: Goodbye Despair. You really shouldn’t listen to this episode until you’ve finished both Danganronpa 1 and 2.
On Episode 41 of S. Link FM, we had the wonderful opportunity to speak to Indie game developer Bill Stiernberg from Zeboyd Games! Bill is one half of the the team that brought out recent cult classic RPGs like Breath of Death VII, Cthulhu Saves the World, and is currently working on the highly anticipated Cosmic Star Heroine.
We talked all about what we like about Persona, and just what makes a good RPG in general. Warning: excessive Chrono Trigger talk.(but really you don’t need a warning cause Chrono Trigger is amazing)
Disclaimer: The episode was recorded before the Persona 5 reveal, we’ll surely have an episode about that in the coming days!
The journey has culminated, after 39 Episodes we’ve finally reached the first big landmark in the podcast’s history. To celebrate this occasion we’ve got an all star panel to discuss Ultimax, EVO, and the future of anime fighting games. That panel includes the legend and our old friend Dacidbro. The Persona 4 Arena EVO 2014 champion LordKnight. Finally we actually managed to convince someone some Atlus to join the panel, that’s right–John Hardin AKA Atlusprime is on this episode as well!
The anticipation was great for this Episode, but it feels like we surpassed the hype. Hope you all enjoy this one, as it’s one of the best episodes yet!
If you call yourself a Persona fan, chances are you’ve found yourself surrounded by the “waifu” phenomenon at one point or another. Idol worship has practically become synonymous with anime and a lot Japanese games as a whole by fans, and Persona is no exception.Though it’s fascinating to consider how much of that culture is a product of the community, and how much of it is deliberately encouraged on the part of the developers. On this episode of S. Link FM, we discuss the economics surrounding around best girl. (Yes, this episode is just as ridiculous as the description suggests)
A year has past since the first time we spoke with voice actress Erin Fitzgerald, and it’s remained our most popular episode to date. So due to fan demand, we made sure there was a follow up.
This episode Erin goes into why Chie is an important role to her, shares details on how hard it was to voice the infected in The Last Of Us, and nearly makes Pan keel over by doing several Ed, Edd and Eddy voices.
(PS: Apologies that we didn’t get to everyone’s comments/questions, that’s just how it goes sometimes)
On this new installment of our off topic series, we discuss everything that went down at E3 2014. From our favorite games of the show to our biggest disappointments, it’s all here. Don’t worry though, we don’t complain that Persona 5 wasn’t there. (No really, we don’t)
Have you ever wanted to watch a movie and hear those lovely S. Link FM folks opinions on it as you watch?….No? Well too bad, cause we’ve we’ve done our first movie commentary. Naturally, it’s for the first Persona 3 movie: Spring Of Birth. There are instructions in the actual audio as to how to sync up your movie and the audio.
So kick back, put on your favorite Dark Tranquillity t-shirt, and bare witness to how damn fabulous Mitsuru is. #swaggerjacker
